No dedicated used-equipment calculator ranks for this search — every result is a general tool with a used-equipment FAQ bolted on. That is a shame, because used financing runs on different inputs: the machine’s age (most lenders cap age at 10–15 years at the end of the term), its appraised value (loans cap around 80% LTV against appraisal, vs up to 100% for new), rates 1–3 points higher than new, and terms capped by remaining useful life. This calculator takes those inputs directly instead of pretending a used machine is a new one with a lower price.

Estimates only, not a loan offer.

The used-equipment rules baked into this tool

  1. Age cap: if the machine will be more than ~10–15 years old when the loan ends, most lenders shorten the term or decline — the tool enforces the common cap and tells you.
  2. Appraisal drives the loan amount: lenders lend against documented fair market value (independent appraisal or verifiable comps), not the seller’s asking price — US Finance Calculators’ used-equipment FAQ states the appraisal/FMV requirement plainly.
  3. Rate premium: equiprates’ FAQ quantifies it — expect 1–3% more than the equivalent new-equipment rate, with shorter terms.
  4. Hours/condition matter (heavy iron especially): the tool cannot price condition, but lenders do — expect rate and term adjustments after inspection.

Worked example

2019 wheel loader (7 years old at purchase) · asking $85,000 · appraised $80,000 · 25% down ($21,250) · $63,750 financed (= 79.7% of appraisal — inside the 80% LTV guide) · 12% APR (used premium applied) · 48 months (machine is 11 at term end — inside caps):

Frequently asked questions

Can I finance used equipment with an equipment loan? Yes — SoFi’s calculator FAQ answers this head-on; used equipment is a mainstream lending category, subject to the age, appraisal, and condition rules above.

Can I finance used equipment? EquipCash and Fund My Equipment both answer yes in their FAQs — Fund My Equipment notes it typically funds equipment up to 5–10 years old, in line with the market’s age caps.

How old can used equipment be and still qualify? Most lenders cap at the machine being 10–15 years old at the end of the loan term (usfinancecalculators) — which is why this tool caps your term by the machine’s age rather than letting you select a term no lender would grant.

Do I need an appraisal for used equipment financing? Typically yes — an independent appraisal or documented fair market value, because the loan is sized against appraised value (usfinancecalculators). Budget the appraisal cost into the purchase.

Are interest rates higher for used equipment? Yes: expect 1–3 percentage points more than new-equipment rates, with shorter terms (equiprates FAQ). The older the machine, the further up that band you land.

How much can I borrow against used equipment? Commonly up to about 80% of appraised value (vs up to 100% for new) — usfinancecalculators’ LTV guidance; strong borrowers and liquid machine categories sometimes do better.
